Dr. Thomas B. Kuhn

Professor of Biochemistry and Neuroscience, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Thomas B. Kuhn has served the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1998 to 2002 and from 2004 to 2021; and

WHEREAS Dr. Kuhn has been a highly popular teacher who sponsored the first student chapter of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and helped establish the annual student-oriented University of Alaska Biomedical Research Conference; and he has chaired thirteen successful graduate student committees and served on dozens more; and

WHEREAS Dr. Kuhn’s research, which focuses on inflammatory and oxidative stress in the central nervous system, has elucidated the molecular and cellular mechanisms of a variety of biochemical processes, including the effects of Alaska berry polyphenols; and he helped found the Alaska Basic Neuroscience Program, which has led to nearly $20 million in research grants; and

WHEREAS Dr. Kuhn helped design the current graduate curriculum in biochemistry and neuroscience, which draws high-caliber students and prepares them well for work in the field; and he worked with the University of Alaska administration to create a system to commercialize discoveries in research;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø expresses its deep appreciation for Dr. Thomas B. Kuhn’s extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Kuhn and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the recognition of Dr. Thomas B. Kuhn as Professor of Biochemistry and Neuroscience, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Thomas B. Kuhn, and conveyed to Dr. Kuhn on this first day of May, 2021.
